Jan Balej (1958, Prague)graduated from UPRUM - the film and television graphic arts studio. In 1990 he founded the Hafan film Praha studio which concentrated on puppet animation film production. The other grounding members were Forman twin brothers, Matej and Petr. Miloslav Spála joined in and the studio became one of the leading animation studios in Prague. Finnish animator Katariina Lillqvist has been work¬ing in the studios for many years. Katariina Lillqvist has worked as film editor, scriptwriter, producer and director for about 15 years. She has studied film both in Finland and in Czech Republic. She has done mostly puppet animations, but her work also includes documentaries and features for TV and radio. Katariina Lillqvist is internationally the best known Finnish animation artist. Hafan studios is an extremely high standard on-the-job learning place in the field of animation.
