Pekka Halonen Academy is located in a prestigious building in the neighbourhood of Jean Sibelius’ home and the home and studio of the artist Pekka Halonen.
The Academy offers a variety of training programs in the cultural sector. Vocational Qualification in Visual and Media Arts is a three-year-programme and the students can specialize in Graphic Design, Visual and Media Arts, or Photography.
Completion of the studies provides qualification for working life or eligibility for further education. The Graphic Design student can be employed e.g. in advertising or press agencies and publishing companies. Visual and Media Arts programme provides comprehensive basic skills and knowledge in visual and media arts and initiates the students into the work of a painter, graphic artist or a sculptor. The student of Photography achieves the qualification of a photographer. The various photographing techniques and developing the student’s personal way of expression are the main objectives in the studies. Folk High School Program in Visual and Media Arts is a one-year programme, which gives the student an overall view and understanding of the various sectors and forms of communication and visual expression. After completion of the programme many students continue their studies in the Vocational Qualification Programme in Visual and Media Arts.
