North Karelia College, Outokumpu

North Karelia College Outokumpu is the third biggest college of all the colleges belonging to North Karelia Municipal Education and Training Consortium. Our college has approximately 650 students from all over Finland. We also have students and visiting teachers from abroad. We offer secondary vocational education for all people over 16 years.

Some of our study programs, for example Game design, Dance and Vocational Qualification in Audiovisual Communication in English, are unique in Finland. North Karelia College Outokumpu offers secondary vocational education for all people over 16 years. We have few unique study programmes as Game desing, Dance and Vocational Qualification in Audiovisual Communication in English. The purpose of the vocational training is that students can rely on their competence to cope with the wide range of tasks in their field, to find a job in the increasingly competitive labour market and to qualify for further studies. All degrees include 20 credits of on-the-job-learning which means that students carry out studies at a work place “in real life”. It is also possible to accomplish the on-the-job-learning abroad. We are constantly enlarging our international affairs with foreign colleges and organisations to give better possibilities to our students to have training and study periods abroad. Especially collaboration with Petrozavodsk in Russia is active and projects have made it possible for our students to study and train there. We have a NordplusJunior-exchange project together with Icelandic technical college in Reykjavik. It has offered the possibility for six students per year to visit in Iceland. Our students have also studied in Australia, Germany, Great Britain, Netherlands, Spain and Sweden. We also have 2 study programmes in English: Vocational Qualification in Audiovisual Communication and Vocational Qualification in Dance.

The programs are open to all Finns, foreign nationals and immigrants who have completed Finnish compulsory education or an equivalent.
